Government to observe Veer Raghab Moran Divas officially every year


Makum, April 14: Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said that governnemt would set up a cultural centre after the name of Veer Raghab Moran and said that his government would observe Veer Raghab Morean Divas every year on April 14 to pay rich tribute to the democratic leader.

Speaking on the occasion of Veer Raghab Moran Divas centrally celebrated at Rajanikanta Bordoloi Playground of Makum on Friday, Chief Minister Sonowal terming Veer Raghab Moran as the strongest democratic leader and a great humanist said that the proposed cultural centre of Raghab Moran would reinforce his rich legacy that he left behind. He also said Raghab Moran was the protagonist of democratic movement who always fought against mis-rule and stood beside the weaker section of the society. Raghab Moran always said that "Public is the king" who started democratic movement for the emancipation of the weak and oppressed at least 20 years before the French Revolution.

He also urged the younger generation of Assam to emulate the ideals of Veer Raghab Moran for making Assam stronger economically, culturally and politically.

Stating that Assam is a repository of great and visionary leaders who played significant role in making Assam great, Sonowal informed that in order to highlight the unparalleled contribution of these leaders, Government of Assam has introduced the programme "Discovery of Assam." The state has vast potentials and "Disocovery of Assam" would bring these potentialities to the fore. To serve Assam one has to know the great history of the State. State Government's decision to celebrate the first ever Namami Brahmaputra was to unearth the limitless potentialities of Assam, Sonowal added.

Sonowal also said that his government would take inspiration from the leadership of Raghab Moran and keep inspiring the people with sincerity, honesty and dedication.

Sonowal also presented Veer Raghab Moran sword posthumously to eminent social reformer Mohan Saikia. The sword carries a citation, cheleng and rupees one lakh. He also released a souvenir synchronising with the occasion.

MLAs Bolin Chetia, Bhaskar Sarma, Sanjay Kishan, Rituparna Boruah, Bimal Bora, Chakra Gogoi, Teras Gowala, Binod Hazarika, President Moran Sahitya Sabha Tarun Baruah Moran and host of other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
