Assam Govt. to adopt Affordable Housing Policy in state soon

Dispur, Jan 10: Government of Assam would soon adopt an Affordable Housing Policy in the state taking into consideration the specific needs of the financially weaker section of the society and effecting suitable modification of the existing by laws. The Govt. would also construct 83,000 houses for the people belonging to Lower Income Group (LIG) and Economically Weaker Section (EWS) in the urban areas of the state. A decision in this regard was taken in a meeting, which was held to discuss about the proposed projects of the Assam State Housing Board at Chief Minister's Conference Room at Janata Bhawan today

While taking part in the meeting, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal directed the Urban Development Department to prepare the policy providing housing at affordable costs to the economically weaker section and finalize the same at the earliest.

"Housing is a basic requirement for every individual. Our government is committed to ensure housing for all and we would construct 83,000 houses at urban areas of the state for the Lower Income Group (LIG) and Economically Weaker Section (EWS)", Sonowal announced.

The Chief Minister also directed the Assam State Housing Board to expeditiously complete survey of its assets and conduct valuation of the same in a time bound manner so that bigger projects could be taken up by the Board.

Chairman of Assam State Housing Board Jadav Deka also made a presentation in the meeting on a proposed project for construction of an office cum commercial complex at the present office site of the Board, which would emerge as an iconic building in the city. The project designed by Mecon Limited, a Govt. of India enterprise is proposed as a development model to generate revenue for the Board and making it self-sustainable.

Minister of Agriculture, UDD, Town & Country Planning Department etc. Atul Bora, Chief Minister's Media Adviser Hrishikesh Goswami, MLA Rituparna Baruah, Vice Chairman of ASHB Subhas Dutta, Principal Secretary to CM Sanjay Lohia, Principal Secretary Urban Development Department Ajay Tiwari, officials of ASHB, representatives of Mecon Limited and others were present in the meeting.
