Sonowal launches 'Goti Dainik' a vernacular daily


Dispur, June 8: Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal launched a vernacular news daily 'Goti Dainik' at a function launched at Banga Bhawan in Silchar today.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Sonowal said that media plays a vital role in creating and enriching a democratic society. It also plays a role in strengthening the unity amidst diversity in the society. He also urged upon the media fraternity of the society to highlight the schemes of the government proactively for the benefit of the people at large. At the same time, media should not circulate any news which has a detrimental effect on the unity and integrity of the society, Sonowal added.

The Chief Minister further said that the singing legends like Dr. Bhupen Hazarika and Hemanga Biswas spread the message of harmony in the society and we should be in a position to take their messages forward for strengthening age-old harmony in the state. He, at the same time, expressed his hope that the agenda set by 'Goti Dainik' would be successful in strengthening the society based on universal brotherhood.

He also said that Barak Valley under the previous dispensation of the state was lagging behind on all vital parameters. However, the present State government has accorded topmost priority for the development of three districts of Barak valley along with other areas belonging to Brahmaputra, hills, and plains. He also said that different communities and ethnicities of Assam are working unitedly for strengthening the edifice of a stronger Assam and all the people of the state should contribute to the cause of a strong and harmonious Assam.

Speaking on the occasion, Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma said that 'Goti Dainik' reflecting the true picture of Indian tradition would go a long way in strengthening the society.

Minister of Environment and Forest Parimal Suklabaidya, MLA Dilip Paul, former Union Minister Kabindra Purkayastha, Vice-Chancellor, Assam University Dr. Dilip Kumar Nath and a host of other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
