Bolstering Governance at the Grassroots ------ ► To rationalise resource utilisation and strengthen democratic representation at the grassroots, Cabinet has accorded approval to the Proposal for Reorganization of Development Blocks and Delimitation of Gaon Panchayats, Anchalik Panchayats and Zilla Parishads in Assam ► The need for reorganising and delimitation arose after the delimitation of LACs under which the existing jurisdiction of Development Blocks fell in more than one LAC, no longer reflects the State's evolving growth needs ► The following factors have been considered under the Block Reorganisation Proposal ■After reorganization, a Development Block will belong to only one LAC. The total number of Development Blocks will not be more than the present number of 219 and number of Blocks in the district will be maximum up to the existing number of Blocks (Block HQ) in the district In case any existing block is divided among 2 or more districts, the Block will be considered in the district where the existing Block HQ lies The maximum number of GPs in a block will be 17 GPs post delimitation There will be no changes in the Blocks for Hill districts of Karbi Anglong, West Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao as no Block falls in more than one LAC in these districts ■The overlapping of the Blocks between the BTC and General areas is proposed to be rectified
