Projects worth ₹555 cr in Bongaigaon

A "Day for Development" was observed in Bongaigaon district on 27 July 2023. Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated several new projects on the occasion, besides laying foundation stones for others. Altogether seven new projects were inaugurated and foundation stones were laid for six others worth ₹555 crore. The initiative will herald a new momentum to growth and development in Bongaigaon district. Panchayat & Rural Development and General Administration, etc, Minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass, MLAs Phanibhusan Choudhury, Abdul Batin Khandakar, Ajoy Kumar Ray and Pradip Sarkar were also present on the occasion.

Adarsh Vidyalayas A New Filip to Education Sector

The Government of Assam has taken up a revolutionary initiative of setting up more Adarsh Vidyalayas to improve education sector in the State. These Adarsh Vidyalayas are English-medium schools set up in rural areas, affiliated to CBSE and managed by Adarsh Vidyalaya Sangathan. Currently, 38 such schools are already running and academic sessions have begun in 18 more. Further, the government has taken the initiative of setting up 118 Tea Estate Model Schools. Of these, 97 have already been inaugurated and classes have begun in the academic session 2022-23. Last year, President Smt Droupadi Murmi had laid foundation stones for 100 more TE Model Schools in the State. Every Adarsh Vidyalaya is equipped with Atal Tinkering Lab and Smart Classes. These schools have set a new benchmark by registering a pass percentage of over 93% in the past five years. Under Project Child, not only the mental and physical well-being of children are ensured, but training is also provided to headmasters/headmistresses and teachers of these schools. Science exhibitions, discussions, workshops, sports competitions, cultural programmes, educational tours, etc, are regularly organised in these Adarsha Vidyalayas to inculcate scientific temperament and promote a competitive spirit among the children.

Two MoUs were signed by two entities of the Government of Assam.

The Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) and Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) signed an agreement for exchange of land for constructing a second entry to Guwahati Railway Station from Paltan Bazar side. The MoU will help NFR develop the largest railway station of the North East with an annual footfall of 1 crore passengers into a state-of-the-art station with modern amenities and help decongest the periphery of the railway station. Under the MoU, land measuring 4 bigha, 4 Katha and 19 lessa (excluding a part for building a new ASTC office) will be transferred by the ASTC to the Railways. In return, the ASTC will get 20 bigha land from NFR in Jalukbari area, which will be used for infrastructure development of the ASTC. The second MoU was signed between the Directorate of Inland Water Transport (IWT) and Numaligarh Refinery Ltd (NRL) for ensuring a quantum of assured supply of high speed diesel for IWT vessels.

Towards fulfilling the promise of Providing 1 lakh jobs

The Government of Assam led by Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma is committed to providing one lakh government jobs to local youth. Altogether, 86,782 candidates have been appointed to various departments so far. While 42,079 candidates were appointed earlier, 44,703 candidates received their appointment letters on 25 May 2023. Processes are underway to give more appointments to meet the target of providing one lakh government jobs.

‘A Fortnight for Development’

For all-around development of the State, “A Fortnight for Development” - Phase I was recently observed. During this period, foundation stones were laid and new infrastructure projects inaugurated by Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma across 11 districts entailing a total investment of 15,000 crore. The remaining districts of the State will be covered in the next phase of the programme.

400th birth anniversary of Lachit Barphukan observed nationally

The 400th birth anniversary of Mahavir Lachit Barphukan was observed nationally at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi on November 23, 24 and 25, 2022. On November 23, Hon’ble Union Finance Minister Smt Nirmala Sitharaman formally opened the gates of the exhibition, which featured the 2,000 years of Assam history and 600 years of Ahom rule. Hon’ble Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah was present on the second day where a documentary on the life and works of Mahavir Lachit was screened. Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi participated in the event on November 25 and also released a book prepared by Government of Assam on Mahavir Lachit. Two seminars were also held on November 23 and 24 which were attended by several prominent personalities of the country. Another event was also held at the National Defence Academy, Pune on November 26 where Bir Lachit Barphukan award was given to the best cadet. The Government of Assam is also planning to erect a Mahavir Lachit memorial at the National Police Academy, Hyderabad.
